Irving Oil Offers Second DEF Pumping Location In Quebec

Publication date

PORTSMOUTH, NH — Irving Oil has announced that its travel plaza in St. Liboire, Quebec is now equipped to conveniently dispense DEF at the pump in three diesel fueling lanes. This Irving location is the second retailer offering DEF at the pump in Quebec and serves as just one of seven DEF dispensing locations across all of Canada.

The Irving location, at Exit 145 of Trans-Canada Highway 20, is equipped with a combination pump designed with Gilbarco technology to specifically dispense DEF and diesel fuel. The combo-pump allows for an easy and convenient way for drivers to fill up on DEF and diesel in one spot and in one transaction.

“We are excited to offer DEF dispenser access at three of our St. Liboire diesel fueling lanes,” said Harry Hadiaris, General Manager of Irving Oil Marketing. “We understand that our customer’s time is valuable, and by filling up on both DEF and diesel in one easy transaction, our drivers eliminate the hassle of having to reposition the truck or using portable DEF jugs.”

DEF, short for Diesel Exhaust Fluid, is an ammonia-based solution used to clean exhaust and reduce emissions from diesel vehicles. Since 2010, the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA) standards have required heavy-duty highway trucks and buses manufactured to meet more stringent emissions limits for NOx and particulate matter. Most heavy-duty vehicle manufacturers have added Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) to their exhaust system design to meet these tougher standards. The SCR technology uses DEF to chemically reduce NOx, or smog creating emissions, to near zero. Cleaner emissions mean trucks and buses run cleaner, which also improves their fuel economy.

Irving is planning to expand its DEF offer to other parts of its network in the future.
