Atlantic Provincial Championship Bantam Aaa Hockey Teams Set To Land In Mount Pearl, Nl For The 23rd

MOUNT PEARL, NL — Atlantic Provincial Champion Bantam AAA hockey teams arrive in Mount Pearl, NL today for the Irving Oil Challenge Cup, taking place Thursday April 3rd to Sunday April 6th at the Glacier Arena in Mount Pearl.

“I have trained and worked really hard to get to this tournament,” says Ava Boutilier, goalie of the PEI Bantam AAA Champions, the Charlottetown Irving Oil Abbies, “My parents and grandfather are making the trip with me to Newfoundland; the Cup is a very big deal for me and my family.”

“The excitement we see in young hockey players like Ava is the reason we sponsor the Irving Oil Challenge Cup; it gives young athletes in Atlantic Canada a place to shine. Bantam AAA teams from across Atlantic Canada have been in fierce competition for their respective Bantam AAA Provincial Championship titles and a spot in the largest Bantam AAA tournament in Atlantic Canada; the 2014 Irving Oil Challenge Cup.

Prince Edward Island’s Charlottetown Irving Oil Abbies, Nova Scotia’s Irving Oil Bubba Ray’s Gulls, New Brunswick’s Irving Oil Hawks and two teams from Newfoundland and Labrador; the host team, Tri Com Irving Oil Thunder and the provincial champions, the St. John’s Irving Oil Ice Breakers. The teams will battle for the Challenge Cup this coming weekend.

Former Irving Oil Challenge Cup Alumni include several current and former professional hockey players such as Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburg Penguins, Colin White of the San Jose Sharks and Sawyer Hannay of the Vancouver Canucks.

Paul Rosen will be the keynote speaker at the Challenge Cup awards banquet, taking place on Saturday April 5. Rosen, an inspirational speaker, represented Canada on the National Sledge Hockey Team during the 2002, 2006 and 2010 Paralympic Winter Games.
