Irving Oil launches sustainable energy product for Irish customers
County Cork, IE – Irving Oil is pleased to offer a new energy product made from renewable, sustainable raw materials – now available to customers at the fuel distribution site of Ireland’s only refinery.
This 100 per cent hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) fuel option offered at the Irving Oil Whitegate Refinery in County Cork is a biofuel which is manufactured similarly to diesel, while using renewable and sustainable feedstocks such as pretreated, used cooking oils and other recycled oils.
The product can be a direct and sustainable replacement to conventional diesel, while reducing carbon emissions by up to 90 per cent.
While the product is now available to wholesale customers at Whitegate’s fuel distribution site, or rack, it is also provided through Top Oil’s commercial team. Top Oil, like the Whitegate refinery, is owned by Irving Oil, a Canadian-based energy company. Moving forward, the company will be working to provide this new product to transport customers and other consumers at select Top sites across the country, expanding over time to utilize its extensive retail network and strong, reliable supply chain.
“We are proud to offer this new, low-carbon product to our customers. We continue to actively pursue renewable energy opportunities to advance our sustainability goals, and providing HVO to our Irish customers will also support the country in meeting its own decarbonization targets,” says Darren Gillis, Chief Marketing Officer at Irving Oil. “We thank our team for their hard work to bring this sustainable solution to our customers, and for continuing to bring our energy transition strategy to life.”
In 2021, Irving Oil began co-processing HVO with diesel at its Whitegate refinery and continues to produce a blended diesel/HVO product. This new 100 per cent HVO fuel option is an exciting step in the company’s product offering to the Irish market, demonstrating its continued commitment to developing sustainable solutions now and in the future.
